Gas AbsorptionIn gas absorption a soluble component is absorbed by contact with a liquid phase in which the component is soluble. This system is used for scrubbing gas streams of components such as sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide and ammonia. In this experiment, water is used to remove CO2 from air. In this experiment, the performance of a packed gas-liquid absorption tower is evaluated. The primary objective is to determine how the mass transfer rate is affected by gas flow rate, especially as the column approaches its loading and flooding points. PurposeThe goal of this laboratory exercise is to study the performance of an absorption column. Learning ObjectivesThe main learning objective of this laboratory exercise is to gain experience in fully characterizing the behavior of a gas absorption column. To do this, one must examine such parameters as the composition of the overhead and bottoms products at various feed rates and inlet compositions. These parameters should be calculated theoretically using available computer programs and determined experimentally from the column. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
